Global Biblical Hebrew was presented for the world of Bible translation in Thailand in October and the first learner has started.
In the exhibition hall at the BT Conference at the JCBT table
At the Bible Translation Conference 2025 in Thailand, I introduced my Global Biblical Hebrew course material, BibleOL and TheWell for learning free of charge.
My first registered learner from the conference, Phun Za Pum from Yangoon in Myanmar, is now active learning to read Biblical Hebrew after our first online meetings.
My good friend from Jerusalem Center for Bible Translators, Director Bob Carter, graciously offered me a place at their table.
This gave me the opportunity to offer professional online learning of Biblical Hebrew free of charge without subscription for learners in the Global South.
My goal is to train local learners to become trainers and to deliver a solution that works well in remote areas without stable power and internet.
Global Biblical Hebrew is a full Biblical Hebrew course material for beginner, basic and advanded level available on subscription, but it is provided free of charge for exegetical advisors and Bible translators in the Global South by special arrangement as part of a training program.
It is developed for the online application Bible Online Learner (BibleOL) now hosted by Nida Institute of Biblical Scholarship under the direction of Renier de Blois and a team of international scholars.
The program has been well received by former students. Students in the West have been able to learn Biblical Hebrew at top level performance as online learners without local instruction. Ethiopian students have achieved remarkable results.
To understand the full potential, you can watch a presentation of Hebrew Global Learning at SBL International July 31, 2024, in Amsterdam, introducing TheWell BibleOL: Clik HERE to watch!
The main mission is to train-the-trainers for local institutions and translation teams in rural settings and remote areas through TheWell box.
TheWell is an incredibly strong solution. It has been tested with great success in rural Southern Ethiopia and works very well in areas without stable power supply and unreliable or even non-existent internet connection.
TheWell BibleOL project is a partner of the NIDA Institute, its Director, Dr Reinier de Blois, serving as advisor on training needs and opportunities for Bible translators and language instructors in the Global South.
I am taking the first step to scale up outside Ethiopia, where I have offered the first successful training courses.
The first country on my list is Kenya in January and March 2026. TheWell box with BibleOL is a strong solution in remote areas as it has rechargeable batteries lasting 16 hours. It is also a safe option in politically sensitive areas because it works as a local wifi solution for 20 learners within a range of 20 meters only. Users can choose when to log on to internet and use online support.
This solution was presented at the Bible Translation Conference 2025 in Thailand – watch the video and see how easy it is to log on. A learner can within a couple of minutes begin to learn the first consonants of Biblical Hebrew using TheWell box.
The global mission is to train-the-trainers. Pilot projects begin with two intensive week-long courses:
Success will depend on local collaborators who do the training and support the vision. No trainees will be accepted without practice and performance based on Bible Online Learner. Intensive courses will also require classrooms, internet and affordable accommodation.

My mission is to roll this solution out globally in partnerships with local providers. Do reach out if you want to pursue this solution further.
I can only cover my personal expenses, but training is free of charge. I cannot cover any expenses for participants. Finally, I can only do this as long as funding and donations are available as I do not have a job with a salary.
You can ask for an appointment on TEAMS at 9 pm CET or at another time more suitable to you (click HERE).
